Cake:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp almond extract
- Preheat the oven to 350 F.
- In a saucepan, boil the water and butter together.
- Add the flour and sugar, one cup at a time, alternating. Stir as you go.
- Add the baking powder and salt, then remove from the heat and stir.
- Stir in the sour cream, beaten eggs, and almond extract.
- Spread evenly on a sheet pan and bake for 22-25 minutes.
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- Boil the milk and butter together.
- Whisk in the almond extract and powdered sugar.
Assembly:
- Spread the frosting evenly on the cake while hot.
- Allow to cool to room temperature.
- Cut into squares.
